Creative Variations: — Three images one scene!

Sometimes you are out photographing just for fun and want to expand you creativity or you simply makes a mistake and your images are more interesting than usual. My creativity is often bigger when the weather is not set for great images – like very grey and dull days. One such day I was out for a walk and saw these Birch trees. Nothing particular I just wanted to take an image of the forest to use for a large wallpaper – here it is:

Natural Birch Trees in Colour

A fine image – I really like the natural look. I used a low aperture to blur the background trees and make the front trees stand out of the forest. I was actually satisfied with the image when I previewed it in the camera but I wanted to experiment a bit an try and make one of those popular blurry images of trees. So I gradually lowered the shutter speed from 1/80 sec to 0.3 sec until I was satisfied with the result.

Blur Birch Trees in Colour

Much more abstract but is it more interesting? I will let you answer that question. I like it and think it will be a nice piece of art for the wall. Particular I like the blur and motion in the picture and also the colours are more saturated and vivid. I’m more traditional so I wanted to investigate how the original image looked when turned into a black & white image.

Natural Black & White Birch Trees

The result of converting the image into black & white is a very graphical image. The black & white make you focus more on the shapes and the contrast in the image. The black & white version is my favourite of the three images.

Equipment used: Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L. Edited in Adobe Lightroom 3.

As a bonus I’ve included a desktop version of the birch wallpaper for you… (please only for personal use – remember to link if you post it on your personal blog).
